Like them very much, but note that they don't have the strength to nip off old wood - they cut this year's growth well, and some of last years. But you need something more robust for older stuff.
This product may seem pricey but it is a very good quality, high spec product. It has made the annual end of summer pruning of our ornamental crab apple tree a much easier and safer process (we previously used a weighty, awkward string pulley type of lopper - which was heavy, cumbersome and tiring to use). Nice and light and easily maneuverable in tricky places, and the hold facility is a real bonus. A pleasure to use.
I always had a problem tending my fruit trees both trimming and picking just out of reach branches and fruit. The ARS 160ZF has solved that problem for me with its 3 meter length plus my height and reach. Not only can I now reach to the top of my trees to trim the highest branches I can also easily pick the highest fruits and lower them safely with the cut and hold feature. Much safer than climbing or standing on step Ladders. All in all a brilliant well made garden tool highly recommended.
These cut and hold pruners are excellent, the hold ability is perfect for cutting back aquatic plants at the pond edge and also cutting back high, out of reach branches. They do represent value for money as they are so well made.
This is my third purchase over 30 years, they are built to withstand years of use.
I'm a professional Gardener and have a few ARS tools, always fantastic well engineered tools Well worth the extra money compared to cheaper similar tools
I did about 8 hours of intense research after I saw someone use a cut and hold lopper to get at blackberries. It is very difficult to find a good quality cut and hold lopper, but this one really is! It is expensive, but it is made in Japan and it is very sharp. It doesn't cut wooden stems much bigger than about 10-15mm, but it is perfect for anything green and fairly small wooden stems. Cuts like a dream and the hold feature works really well too. Very happy with this lopper. Good delivery process too. So happy I finally found this and decided to go for this one!
I had a glut of greengages this year and was looking for a way of picking the out of reach fruit because there was so much, so purchased these in the hope of achieving this. It is rare I write the always asked for review but these telescopic pruners are so good. Not just the fact that they extend 3 meters but the fact that even at full extension the design makes it really easy to cut the twig with the fruit on at almost any angle and still grip the twig with the jaws attached to the side of the pruner blades so you can lower the fruit carefully to the ground. I thought at the time they were expensive and it was a bit of a gamble but the cost is totally justifiable and will be a pleasure to use with all my out of reach fruit next year including my pears which can be heavy but still grips them! I know they will have a lot more uses but even if you just wanted something to pick fruit then these are the ones to buy. and no I'm nothing to do with the company! This is an honest review!
Being an elderly lady I needed a pruner I could use without getting on steps & I have found this one to be a godsend. Easy to use & lightweight. It was recommended by my daughter. The service was excellent & I would recommend this company
Quality product. Very fast delivery.
Accurate cutting in awkward posistions at high level and the grabber feature works well.
Excellent pruner for reaching those difficult positions. Brought one after using it for work, so it's pretty robust.
I have used this to prune shoots on several pretty large apple trees. This is a great tool for this job and the reach is impressive. Because you’re not pulling on a cord to make the cut, you don’t come off your line. It’s true to say that the maximum thickness of the cut is going to be 1 cm on the more woody shoots, but that’s the trade off for its lightweight construction. For best results, make the cut as square as you can whilst allowing for a slight slope away from the bud/node, otherwise it will not cut through cleanly
Only used a handful of times since buying and they have stopped working, I’ve had cheaper makes of the same product which have lasted years Very disappointed as I’ve owned lots of ARS products in the past with no issues Would be looking for a refund but I suspect it’s to late now
