Excellent tool. Splits logs safely and accurately, so accurate you can cut really thin slivers for kindling. Big logs do take some effort throwing the weight down the shaft rather than dropping it. Locktite cure the locking nut problem. overall a brilliant piece of lit.

I was dubious that this device would work that well and certainly not as well as in the video (which i recommend you watch)and it didn't - quite. It splits most logs efficiently though needs a few blows per log and is more accurate than using an axe. It helps if you propel the weight down the pole but if you can lift the wight up, and i think even my 75 year old 4'9" mum could, and drop it, you can split logs up to about 9" across, with a few blows. if you can wield an axe, the smart splitter will not save you time but it will save effort and allow you to split logs pretty precisely. I use it along with using an axe, the smart splitter to initially split the whole round log and then using my axe. one nice surprise is that the smart splitter came with a drill to make the hole in the base log. i would advise putting a very small amount of oil on the metal shafts. someone else recommended using a crow bar to free up any logs with knots in that get jammed and i would second that. all in all, a remarkably effective log splitter for what it costs.

Such a simple concept and yet so effective. i have split logs up to 12" in diameter and nearly 24" long with relative ease and certainly 80% easier than with an axe. great value for money even more so at the special rate offered by tooled up when i purchased the item. I would definitely recommend this item.

It does the job, easy to install, easy to use. It take up minimal storage space.

I bought one of these several years ago and it is very effective and has proven to be reliable. It is much better, quicker, easier and safer than using an axe or wedge and sledge hammer. Good safe exercise too - i have several damaged back disks but can operate this all day provided i stand upright with the core muscles taut. i bought another this christmas for my daughter and she and her partner have already used it a great deal and are delighted. You need to be careful chopping logs with twisted grain - such as where a large limb was joined to the trunk - because the wedge can get stuck. I've found a large wrecking bar readily free the kit up.
